The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Houston met at the home of Steve Robbins, President, for the annual General Meeting and the election of new Board Members. The Society is pleased to announce the following community members have agreed to two-year terms.
Jack Blanton III
Lisa Marut-Shriver is happy to become a member of the HG&S board after recently joining the group for Princess Ida in 2016! She and her husband, David, have been married for 7 years and live in Cypress. Lisa has a masters of vocal performance and bachelor of music education K-12 choral general and has performed with Vox-The Rob Seible Singers, The Houston Symphony Chorus, St. Leonard Choral Society, Commonwealth Lyric Theater, Opera Boston, Boston Opera Collaborative, Odyssey Opera, Metrowest Opera, New England Conservatory Opera Studio, and more. She is a Soprano Section Leader/Soloist at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, has cantored on CatholicTV, and joins the fight daily to make cancer history in her day job with The Department of Head and Neck Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Joe Carl White became enamored of the Savoy Operas thanks to his parents, and has been singing in productions for almost 35 years. He met his wife, Anne, through performing with the Society, and has already started bringing his daughter, Kate, to rehearsals. An avid long-distance cyclist, he and a friend biked over 1100 miles down the Danube from the Black Forest to the Black Sea to raise funds for multiple myeloma research, and will be biking from Houston to Chicago for the same charity in the spring of 2017. A native of Beaumont, he received a BA from Rice with majors in Economics, Managerial Studies, and Religious Studies, and is a freelance IT consultant with clients across the globe.
The Society also wishes to thank Mary Speer for her many years of devoted service as she transitions to the Emeritus Board.
