Current vocal students are invited to apply to our scholarship program, open to undergraduates 24 years or younger as of January 28, 2023 and currently taking 12 hours or more of study. This year the Society will award scholarships of $1000 and $500 to two selected students, paid directly to the recipient's school in their name.
Two songs are to be submitted online by December 9, from musical theater, opera, or operetta, or an art song, with at least one being from a work by Gilbert & Sullivan.
The Society is taking applications from vocal performers for a set of career grants open to anyone 35 years or younger as of January 28, 2023. Finalists will be invited to perform in Houston for the awarding of the grants.
The Competition will award 1st Prize of $2,500, 2nd Prize of $1,500, 3rd Prize of $750, as well as a voted Audience Favorite Prize of $500.
Finalists will receive a stipend of $100 and must prepare three pieces in total, one of which must be from a Gilbert & Sullivan opera. Finals are to be held in Houston on January 28, 2023. The G&S piece will be presented first, then the judges will call for a second piece.
Competition judges will be Sasha Cooke (Grammy-winning mezzo-soprano, Metropolitan Opera), Richard Bado (Director of Artistic Operations and Chorus Master, Houston Grand Opera), and Monique Midgette (Associate Artistic Director, Theater Under the Stars).
Congratulations to the finalists!
